My name is Kendra, and I'm addicted to reading. Wait, sorry, that's not what I meant. Let me start again! Hello. My name is Kendra, and I love to read excessively and yap about every book I read. I guess that is kind of the same thing.

 

I have always been a reader. At a young age, my favorite thing about movies and books was to escape reality, explore other worlds in my head, and pretend they were real. I always pretended that I was a character in these books and found characters so relatable to things that I felt but never knew how to articulate. It may have started with series like Magic Treehouse, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, and Harry Potter. But they were all just a stepping stone into the books I read now.

My reading journey as an adult started in 2020, like many others, I lost my job, and there was nothing left to do in quarantine but binge-watch TV or movies. Once that became repetitive, I finally thought I should try reading. I had no idea I would stumble into a hobby that would become my entire personality.

The first book to restart my love of reading was Normal People by Sally Rooney. I initially wanted to read it simply because they were making it into a TV show, but as soon as I read it, I needed more. Slowly and then not so slowly, I ended up reading more than 300 books in the year 2022. Granted, it was a mix of smut, literary fiction, fantasy, and romance, but I had realized this was something I was good at. No, I excelled at this. Reading books became my favorite thing to do, to shop for, finding new books constantly, and then realizing there were entire communities where people like me existed.

This inevitably leads to starting my Booktok account in 2024. Which is where I am today. Although this may not be a full-time job, it has become something I truly enjoy and find value in. It is a place where like-minded people can express their passions for reading and books. I find new people to follow and learn about new authors and books that I may not have found otherwise. 

So, all this to say, welcome. This will be a new platform where I will go more in-depth into reviews and just yapping about all the bookish things I can think of. I hope to create some series on books I recommend, where I would start as someone unsure where to start, and encourage anyone who wants to get into reading to just do it!
